It has been a bit of time since I wrote my last blog. To say I was rushed of my little plastic feet would be no small truth. As the King of fielding aids and training products, even if it is self-proclaimed, I have more social engagements than my orange Cousin Harry. All those bars that need opened. Yes indeed with my role as chairman of the Fielding and training aids association, ambassador of the Cricket coaching aids Council and the somewhat underpaid figurehead of the Cricket Fielding products evaluation club there is very little time to even read my fan mail. Which, as I don’t get any is no small relief.
As I write this there is so much to say, the last month has been a smorgersboard of Sport (those not familiar with such a thing, it is a large, varied and tasty food buffet). Naturally I was adopted by the Dutch during the Olympics and became their mascot and goalie training aid for both the Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams. It felt a bit like treason not working with the GB team, but I only say a bit. Though my roots are in Scotland I was born in China and spent much of my formative years in the baggage area of Singapore Airport after being mislaid by my careless owner * who had indulged a little to much in the free VB and XXXX served by the airline.
Steve Bayer, who is the GB womens coach got me on board pre-Olympics and I had a wonderful couple of weeks at their camp. I was the happiest plastic thing going around when they got their bronze medal.
In my absence from the England Cricket team all hell appears to have broken loose. I have never seen the boys drop so many catches and for me is the reason we lost, not only the test series, but drew the one day series as well. Good thing for me is that my absence coincided with the drops and has increased my worth. The Flower has been on the phone non-stop, he has offered a family pack of Wotsits and a bottle of Orangina. All well and good but I am holding out for a Terrys Chocolate Orange as well.
With Papa Katchet, the King of fielding aids back on board the T20 World Cup is a shoe in. That is of course unless you have to bat and bowl as well. My work starts during the present series against SA. It is a young, inexperienced team we have on the batting side. This makes it exciting and I feel there could be some special fielding moments with the talent and athleticism on show.
Anyway, Katch up soon and maybe I will have a word on my favourite kocky Kricketer KP.
* I don’t want to name and therefore embarrass my first owner but it started with ‘B’ and ended in ‘oon’.
